2.1. Simulation of Postglacial Rebound [10] Our synthetic GRACE data include contributions from PGR, which we calculate using a dynamical model. That model requires knowledge of the Earth’s viscoelastic structure and of the spatial and temporal distribution of global ice …

Q1161410. When you fill a sink, the water rises at the same rate to the same height in every corner. That's not the way it works with our rising seas.

The Solander Trail runs partway along with it, past many fine examples of how the last ice age and the post-glacial rebound that followed have shaped the

Blue and purple areas indicate rising due to the removal of the ice sheets. Yellow and red areas indicate falling as mantle… For many years, the two subjects of (1) postglacial rebound and its potential for generating earthquakes and (2) the seismicity of passive continental ml!rgins have been of interest and concern to earth scientists on both sides of the North Atlantic. present postglacial rebound (PGR, also called Glacial Iso-static Adjustment, GIA) is continuing, with uplift rates reaching 10 mm yr 1 or more around Hudson Bay and decreasing further away. Post-glacial rebound has caused numerous significant changes to coastlines and landscapes over the last several thousand years, and the effects continue to be significant. In Sweden , Lake Mälaren was formerly an arm of the Baltic Sea , but uplift eventually cut it off and led to it becoming a freshwater lake in about the 12th century, at the time then Stockholm was founded at its outlet. Postglacial rebound models consist of three highly correlated characteristics, namely the thickness of the ice sheet as a function of location and time (the glaciation history; Fig. 2), the viscosity of the sublithospheric mantle as a function of depth , and the thickness of the elastic lithosphere.

Postglacial rebound

Post-glacial rebound (även kallad isostatisk rebound eller crustal rebound ) är ökningen av landmassor efter avlägsnandet av den enorma vikten av isark under den senaste isperioden , vilket hade orsakat isostatisk depression . 1. The process through which land that was suppressed under ice during the previous ice age is gradually rising in elevation.

That's not the way it works with our rising seas. The effort to determine how fast the ice sheets that blanket Greenland and Antarctica are melting is complicated by something called “postglacial rebound.” As the earth’s crust is relieved Important constraints on mantle viscosity can be made by comparing observations of post-glacial rebound (PGR) with model predictions of the Earth's response to deglaciation.
